A few of our ewes - Spring 2008
|
Our flock consists of 3 breeds of sheep; Finn, Tunis, and Icelandic. Each have their own uniqueness and therefore are raised for different reasons as well as purpose. I have raised many different breeds and have narrowed it down to these 4 as my favorites. Finns are extremely easy to handle and have beautiful highly sought after wool. Having multiple births is also a big plus requiring the need for fewer ewes due to the higher crop of lambs born. Tunis are very friendly and have a very nice cream colored, dense fleece with red legs and head. They are our best foragers easily converting roughages to weight with no grain needed. Our Tunis ram is our friendliest sheep here and can be easily handled even when the ewes are in season. Icelandics are short and stocky with very well muscled bodies. Their wool is very soft and lustrous and can be sheared twice a year. They are the hardiest breed we raise and are able to endure Maine's extreme cold temperatures in winter with ease.
We raise and sell each of these breeds as registered breeding stock and have lambs available in the spring of each year.
This year's first born lambs will be ready after May 1st so please check the individual breed links to see what is available.
