Here at Summitview Farm we have 3 Bernese Mountain Dogs; 2 bitches and one dog. They are all prey model raw fed and extremely healthy because of it. All live in the house with us and are very much a part of the family. Niko has decided protecting our flock of sheep is his job, and his alone, and he does it very well. He takes his job very seriously and no one is allowed near his sheep as he watches them from the front porch unless I give the o.k. My daughter trains all our dogs in conformation and I show occasionally as time permits. We do health testing on all our dogs and submit information as we receive it to the Berner-Garde Data Base (www.bernergarde.org). Pedigrees of our Bernese can also be viewed here. Homeopathy is used for all medical issues unless a surgery is needed in which case I use a veterinary clinic that I have found to be very understanding about the way in which I raise my dogs and respects my wishes in regards to their treatment. I have many goals in regards to all my animals but my Bernese in particular since cancer seems to be the number one enemy of this breed. I believe that by feeding a species appropriate diet, limiting or excluding the use of vaccines and keeping their bodies and environment free of harmful chemicals I can avoid the cancer scene or at least put it off for a bit. I am hoping to breed my youngest bitch this coming year pending hip/elbow results. Pups will be raw fed and I will try to place them in homes that think likewise or are willing to at least give it a try.
